Bundt Cake Baking Tips

Bundt cake recipes are cake recipes that use a "bundt" cake pan or a round baking pan that with a hole in the middle and ridged, decorated sides. Bundt cake recipes use a dense cake such as a butter or pound cake recipe. These cakes are sturdy and last well. Recipes often call for a simple glaze or fruit topping. The name Bundt comes from the German word bund, which means "a gathering of people."

Bundt cake recipes have grown in popularity since 1966 when a Tunnel of Fudge cake recipe used a bundt pan to win second place at a Pillsbury sponsored baking contest. Bundt cake recipes have since been quite popular and bundt cake pan sales have increased.

Because bundt cakes are baked in these intricate pans, there can be mishaps when turning the pan upside down and seperating the cake from the pan, ruining a wonderful cake. These mishaps can be avoided by following a few simple steps.

In order to stop your bundt cake from sticking when you turn it upside down you must prepare the pan by brushing it with vegetable shortening and a dusting of flour, alternatively use a non-stick spray with flour, stay away from sprays that contain lecithin as is will leave a residue. If you use the first method, tap the pan lightly over the sink to get rid of surplus flour.

You want the structure of your cake to be consistent throughout so you must avoid trapping air bubbles in the batter. This can be done by pouring the batter slowly, allowing it to fill the crevices of the bundt pan. It is prudent to only fill the pan of the way to allow the batter to rise. Use a spatula to press batter into the detailed walls of the bundt pan. Lightly wobbling the filled pan and tapping it against the counter will allow any remaining air bubbles to escape.

The cake should be placed in the center of the oven to allow for air circulation and even cooking. If the pan is dark colored it will absorb heat more quickly and the cooking temperature should be reduced 25 degrees fahrenheit from what the recipe calls for.

Once the cake has finished baking the correct time, let it cool for 10 minutes. If you turn the cake over now and it is stuck to the pan it may break so be sure to wobble the pan to indicate if it is loose. The cake should move freely from side to side letting you know it is ready to turn over. If the cake is sticking around the sides use a butter knife to gently pry the cake from the sides. Then turn the pan over on to a cooling rack and allow to fully cool.

While the cake is cooling sprinkle powdered sugar or pour your glaze on top.

Leona runs a small cake business and has been baking for over 30 years. She has published a number of bundt cake recipes at bundt-cake.com.

Education Loan Consolidation - A Primer

If you have become weighed down by having to scrape together the money to make payments on student loans several times a month, you may have an alternative which will not only simplify your life; it may save you a considerable amount in interest payments. An education loan consolidation will allow you to combine all your student loans into one, relieving you of the need to try and keep up with all of them. And you may be able to find a lender who offers better interest rates on a single education consolidation loan than the average interest rate for your multiple student loans.

How To Apply For An Education Consolidation Loan In order to apply for an education consolidation loan, youll need to present an accurate record of your existing student loans. You can find the information you need at the website of the National Student Clearinghouse, at www.nslc.org. You can apply for an education loan consolidation at any credit union or bank which belongs to the Federal Education Loan Program, or FELP. The US Department of Education is another great source of information.

If only one lender has been responsible for issuing each of your student loans, you will be required to arrange an education loan consolidation from that lender. And there are warning signs that someone offering you an education loan consolidation may not be legitimate. Avoid any lender who asks for up-front fees or tells you they want you to submit to a credit check. No education loan consolidation lender who is on the up-and-up will require either of those.

Requirements For Applying For An Education Consolidation Loan Requests for the consolidation of federal student loans are almost always accepted. They can be done even if the applicant is still in school, or changing status from full-time to part-time student. Education loan consolidation done while you remains a student or within six months following your graduation will generally have more favorable interest rates than those you delay beyond that period.

If you decide to go for an education loan consolidation while youre still a student, you must inform the lender that you are asking for early repayment status. This will guarantee you a lower interest rate, but will mean that you have to begin repaying the education consolidation loan immediately. If necessary, however, you can ask for an in-school deferment which will push back your payments on the loan until after you have graduated.

You should take the time to find the best terms you can in applying for an education loan consolidation, because you may only consolidate your student loans once. You will probably not be able to consolidate any student loans which do not total at least $7500, and it is your responsibility to initiate and follow through on consolidating your student loans. You may, however, be able to get a list of trustworthy lenders from your colleges financial office.

You can also find more info on Graduate School Loan and Law School Loan. schoolloanshelp.com is a comprehensive resource to get information about School Loans.

Fall Protection

Anchor Point - A secure point of attachment for lifelines, lanyards, or deceleration devices. An anchorage must be capable of supporting a minimum dead weight of five thousand (5,000) pounds (2,268 kilograms) for each person attached to it. An anchor point is often a beam, girder, column, or floor.

Competent Person - Any Supervisor who has been trained to inspect fall-arresting equipment such as horizontal and vertical lifelines.

Lanyard - A rope (nylon or steel cable) suitable for supporting one person.

Lifeline - A vertically suspended rope with one end attached to a stationary object (such as a structural member), capable of supporting at least five thousand (5000) pounds (2,268 kilograms) of dead weight and the other end attached to a lanyard or safety harness.

Qualified Inspector - Any experienced craftsperson or Supervisor who has demonstrated to Project/Site Management his or her ability and competency to inspect equipment.

Retractable Lifeline - A fall-arrest device that allows free travel, without slack rope, but locks instantly when a fall begins. Retractable lifelines may be used, but horizontal movement must be limited.

Rope Grabs (Fall-Arrester) - Automatic lifeline devices that act by inertia (resistance to movement) to grab the lifeline if a fall occurs. Rope grabs are used when vertical movement is required, such as work from boatswain chairs or suspended scaffolds.

Safety Harness - A safety harness is an approved design of straps which may be secured about the employees body in a manner to distribute the fall-arrest forces over at least the thighs, pelvis, waist, chest, and shoulders, with a means for attaching it to other components of a personal fall-arrest system.

Static Line or Catenary Line - A cable or rope strung horizontally and/or vertically from one substantial object to another, providing a means of traveling between those two objects while maintaining fall protection between those objects.

Structural/Substantial Object - Any object to which a lifeline or lanyard may be attached that will support five thousand (5000) pounds (2,268 kilograms) of dead weight.

SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO FALL HAZARD MANAGEMENT

1. Fall Elimination
The first step in this approach is to assess the workplace and the work itself in the earliest design/engineering stages of the Project/Site and during the planning stages of all work. The objective is to eliminate all fall hazards. This assessment of the Project/Site and the work not only helps eliminate hazards but also identifies alternative approaches to the work that can measurably enhance productivity.

Addressing fall protection in the early phases of a Project/Site means that safety can be designed into the work process. For example, the Project/Site can be designed so that anchorages for securing fall-arrest systems are provided at strategic locations throughout the Project/Site, thus improving safety and lowering costs.

2. Fall Prevention
The second step in continuous fall protection also requires assessing the workplace and work processes.

If fall hazards cannot be completely eliminated during the first step, management must take a proactive approach to the prevention of falls by improving the workplace. Early installation of stairs, guardrails, barriers, and travel restriction systems can ensure a safe work environment.

3. Fall Arresting
The third step, the last line of defense against falls, is to use fall-arresting equipment. Use fall-arresting equipment, however, ONLY after determining that potential falls cannot be eliminated by changing work procedures or the workplace. Equipment such as harnesses, lanyards, shock absorbers, fall-arresters, lifelines, anchorages, and safety nets can reduce the risk of injury if a fall occurs. Carefully assess the workplace and work processes to select the most appropriate equipment and to install and use it correctly.

PREPARING WRITTEN FALL PROTECTION PLANS
Fall protection plans shall be prepared for elevated work if fall hazards exist. Where fall hazards are significant, the plans should be in writing. Project/Site Management is responsible for determining which jobs require written plans. The requirement for written plans should be included in all applicable contracts.

Consult your Safety Director/Manager for assistance in developing written plans.

DESIGN INSTALLATION OF FACILITIES
Engineering should include fall hazard management in all designs and should consider the following:
Providing equipment that will allow facilities to be operated from grade level or an approved platform or maintenance access.
Using methods of construction that allow equipment to be connected/installed while on the ground to eliminate elevated work.
In cases where elevated work is necessary, installing fall prevention devices such as rails on the workpieces while on the ground to facilitate fall prevention.
Specifying and insisting that fabricators supply permanent stairs and guardrails before steel is erected.

In this way, the stairs and steel can be erected simultaneously, improving not only safety, but also efficiency. Employees will have safe access and egress, and the necessity of climbing temporary ladders will be reduced or eliminated.

If fall hazard elimination or prevention is not available, identify or install engineered anchor points to facilitate the use of fall-arresting equipment during construction and future maintenance of the facility.

TRAINING
All personnel performing work at elevated positions shall meet the following requirements:
must be trained in the use, inspection, and maintenance of fall-arrest systems;
must demonstrate competency in initial training;
must undergo refresher training as required by changes in the workplace and/or equipment, or as other events indicate that refresher training may be required.

PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES
When working at an elevation of six (6) feet (1.8 meters) or more above grade, floor, or approved work surfaces such as platforms and scaffolds, or when working in an area where a fall potential of greater than six (6) feet (1.8 meters) exists, employees will utilize a full-body harness with a roper means of attachment.

If traversing at an elevation, employees must be tied off at all times, which may require utilizing either two (2) independent shock-absorbing lanyards or a dual (Y) lanyard with a shock-absorbing device.

FULL-BODY HARNESS
All Contractors/Subcontractors will provide full-body harnesses meeting ANSI (American National Standards Institute). Safety belts are NOT allowed for fall protection.

Standard full-body harnesses are not designed for a combined personnel and tool weight in excess of three hundred (300) pounds (137 kilograms). Personnel weighing more than three hundred (300) pounds (137 kilograms), with tools, must consult the Project/Site Safety Representative prior to using fall-arresting equipment.

LANYARDS
Lanyards must meet the following requirements:
Maximum length of a lanyard is six (6) feet (1.8 meters) in length, and it must be equipped with selflocking hooks on each end.
The lanyard must be equipped with shock absorber.
Snap hooks must be of a double-locking design to prevent accidental disengagement. When not in use, the lanyard must be secured and attached to the harness to prevent tripping or snagging.
The lanyard must not be dragged.
The lanyard must not be hooked back into itself unless designed for that purpose.
Knots must not be tied in a lanyard. This will reduce the strength of the lanyard.

ANCHOR POINTS
Anchor points may be an existing structure, a pipe, or a temporary or permanent engineered device such as an installed eyebolt, slide rail, or cable arrangement (e.g., static line). These anchor points must be inspected daily prior to use, by a qualified inspector. Engineered anchor points must be inspected by a competent person.

Anchor points for lanyards/harnesses and vertical lifelines must meet the following requirements:
be able to safely support one person falling six (6) feet (1.8 meters);
be installed in a manner that prevents accidental disengagement from support structures;
be inspected by a competent person on a periodic basis;
be placed where attachment and detachment can be done without causing loss of balance;
be placed above shoulder height to reduce fall distance; and
be free of sharp edges to avoid cutting the lanyard.

The following are examples of anchor points for individuals using harnesses, lanyards or vertical lifelines:
Adequate For Use
structural beams six (6) inches (15.24 centimeters) or greater in depth for one (1) or more people;
pipes four (4) inches (10.16 centimeters) or greater for one (1) person;
pipes six (6) inches (15.24 centimeters) or greater for two (2) people;
fixed permanent ladder rails and clips for one (1) person;
permanent platform handrail post below midrail for one (1) person.

Not Adequate For Use
platform or scaffold handrails (except as noted above);
scaffold ladders;
conduit/instruments;
any part of a valve; and
ladder cages and rungs.

HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LIFELINES
Horizontal lifelines must be installed and used according to manufacturers specifications. The following guidelines should also be followed:
Softeners must be used where lifelines contact sharp edges, such as beam flanges.
Temporary lifelines must be removed at the completion of a job.
Anchor points, connectors, and other system components must be capable of safely supporting one (1) person falling six (6) feet (1.8 meters).
A vertical lifeline shall be used by only one (1) person at a time.

NOTE!!! Horizontal and vertical lifelines must be inspected and maintained by a competent person on a daily basis.

ROPE GRAB
The rope grab must be used with a rope that meets or exceeds the following requirements:
Rope grab size must match rope size;
Minimum diameter of five-eighths (5/8) inch (1.59 centimeters) rope;
Made of polypropylene, nylon, or polyester;
Minimum tensile strength of five thousand (5,000) pounds (2,268 kilograms); and
When rope grabs are used with wire rope, it must be a complete system. (Rope grab must be designed for a specific type and size of wire rope.)

RETRACTABLE LIFELINES
A retractable lifeline is a fall-arresting device used in conjunction with other components of a fall-arrest system. A retractable lifeline should be used by only one (1) person at a time.

A properly inspected and maintained retractable lifeline, when correctly installed and used within the fall arrest system, automatically stops a persons descent a short distance after the onset of an accidental fall.

Retractable lifelines should be considered for use when working in areas such as roofs and scaffolds, tanks, towers, vessels, and manholes. Also, retractable lifelines should be considered when climbing such equipment as vertical fixed ladders and telescoping derricks.

Before using a retractable lifeline, the Supervisor and/or the user must address the following:
Has the user been trained to use a retractable lifeline correctly?
Is the retractable lifeline being used in conjunction with a complete fall-arrest system?
Is the equipment under a regular maintenance program?

Other considerations include:
DO NOT USE ROPE.
Attach self-retracting devices using shackles or carabiner.
Equipment must be hung up or placed loosely in a clean, dry area when storing.

FALL-ARRESTING EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
Project/Site Management must ensure that documented monthly inspections are completed on all fallarresting equipment, including harnesses, lanyards, lifelines, and anchor points.

The inspector shall complete Form S31-2, Fall-Arresting Equipment Inspection Report, and forward the completed form to the Project/Site Safety Office or the designated person.

Prior to each use, a visual inspection shall be made of the safety harness, lifeline, and lanyard(s) by the employee who will be wearing and using the equipment.

All components of a fall-protection system must be tagged and inspected on a determined frequency. For devices that require additional certification, the devices shall be returned to the manufacturer or designated representative at the specified intervals for certification. These inspections must be documented.

If a fall should occur, Project/Site Management must perform the following:
Remove affected fall-arresting equipment from service.
Have the equipment inspected and approved by the manufacturers representative, prior to returning the equipment to service.

If the equipment is unfit for further use, cut up the equipment and discard.

Inspections must be conducted in the following manner:
Webbing/Ropes/Harnesses/Lanyards/Cables
These items must be checked for the following:
Beginning at one end, six (6) inches (15.24 centimeters) to eight (8) inches (20.32 centimeters) of the harness/lanyard must be bent into a U-shape. This helps reveal worn, cut, frayed, burned, or damaged fibers. Both splices and all straps along the entire length must be checked.
Webbing must be carefully checked at attachment points to buckles and D rings.
The shock-absorbing section of the lanyard must be checked for ripped stitches.
The harness/lanyard must be checked for broken/frayed strands.

Buckles/D Rings/Connectors/Retractalock/Ropelock
These items must be checked for the following:
rough, sharp edges;
corrosion;
dents or distortion; and
freely moving parts.

NOTE!!! Also ensure that the clasp on the Ropelock or cable on the Retractalock stops with a quick pull.

Snap Hooks (Gate Locking Keepers/Gate Keeper Spring/Connectors)

These items must be checked for the following:
Snap hooks must be double-locking and must move freely.
Snap hooks must be checked for gaps in closure, sharp edges, burrs, distortion, cracks, corroded surfaces, and pitted surfaces.

Labels Each harness and lanyard must have a label that displays the manufacturing date. If the date is more than five (5) years from the current date, the harness or lanyard must be destroyed and a new one obtained.

WORK PRACTICES
The following are special requirements associated with working at elevated locations or while using fall arresting equipment:
Workers must avoid climbing on equipment such as pumps, exchangers, valve hand wheels, transformers, electric motors, handrails, structures, or any other facilities not specifically designed for climbing.
Climbing on conduit, cable trays, or other similar equipment is not permitted. Climbing of vertical beams is not permitted.
Workers must not climb a ladder while another person is above or below on the same ladder. Fall protection shall be utilized consistent with the specific exemptions and clarifications listed in the Fall Hazard Management Requirements Guide.

The Beatitudes Of Money

Well, here is a list of beatitudes we must have to achieve our retirement goals in the military. If we follow these beatitudes we may not be working until 70 years old with a second career.

1. Blessed are those that save for retirement (Roth IRA and TSP) early for they will have financial freedom. Yes, that is correct you will have more freedoms to do a lot more than if you didn't save any money. For examples if you were to save $4000 in a Roth IRA every year for just 5 years that money (with 7% return for 35 years) could be worth $213,530. So remember to start saving early so that interest works for you.

2. Blessed are those that pay down their credit cards with the highest interest first for they may save a lot a money in the future. Credit card debt is one of the worst things one can get into. It is almost financial suicide unless one can pay it entirely off every month. Most of us don't have the discipline to due so. So my advice if you have a lot of credit card debt is pay the minimum balance on the credit cards that have the lowest interest rate and put that extra money into the high interest rate credit until they are paid off first.

3. Blessed are those that create a budget for each paycheck for they may have money left over to save in their high yield savings account. Yes, a budget is always a good habit to get into. I recommend writing down a budget and then try to stick with it. After a few month than adjust it some. Most financial advisor say pay yourself first for retirement then your high yield saving account for emergency funds, then finally the rest of your expenses. I cannot stress the importance of having money in a high yield savings versus a savings account down the street. A high yield savings account is 10X the national average rate.

4. Blessed are those that sacrifice those expensive toys (i.e. boats, 4 wheelers etc.) for they will have some money for retirement. Some of us can afford these toys so I am not against buying these things when one has the actual money to buy it. However, may people what to have these toys but they want to finance them through the bank. Later, they find out they either cannot pay the payments or they lose interest in these toys.

5. Blessed are those who do not accrue late fees/ATM fees for they will have more money. Sometimes we do stupid things with our money. We forget to pay for items on time so we are charged a fee. Sometimes we use the ATM machine more than we should and accrue fees. My advice is to go to the bank and get enough cash that will last for the next payday instead of using the ATM. Secondly, we need to set up a time once a month/or once every two weeks to pay our bills on time.

6. Blessed are those that will never take out a PAYDAY loan for they will be charged a very high interest rate fee. This is one of the best ways one can waste money. I cannot believe it takes the power of congress and the president to limit these companies to lend to servicemen. It is better just to stay away from these companies.

Remember these Six beatitudes and you will be able to receive your reward in those retirement years.

Tax-Free Shopping

In Western Europe at doors of many shops is possible to see a badge "tax-free for tourists". It means that having done shopping in such a shop, you can essentially save money. The system of "tax-free shopping " (TFS) is based on that in the European Union exist established rule: if you constantly live outside of the European Union, leaving EU, you can wholly receive back the sum of the tax on added cost (VAT), which you have paid at purchasing of the goods.

The procedure of VAT refund is extremely simple. At purchasing of the goods in TFS shops the special check has to be given to you, at departure from the country the stamp of customs house has to be put on it, and then you can receive money by this check. To use TFS system is necessary to know some details.

The requirements at fulfillment of purchase

At purchase in shop of TFS system ask the seller to fill in the special check - Tax Free Shopping Cheque. Look carefully after, that the seller has entered your surname, name and address correct in the check, as it is in your passport. You can, naturally, to fill it in by yourself. In the check also have to be written down: the sum of purchase, the sum of the paid VAT and the sum of refund (that is VAT minus the commission), which you should receive at departure from EU. It is necessary to know that the VAT and the commission in the different EU countries are various. In the whole the sum of refund vary from 10 % up to 19 % from the price of purchase.

You should know that in a number of EU countries to receive the right on VAT refund is necessary to buy the goods for the certain sum in TFS shop. The different shops also have specificity: in some shops is necessary to do shopping for the certain sum in all departments, in others - only in one department (for example, video recorder and video tapes, but not a video and costume). Remember it, as well as that sometimes sellers prefer to not contact with tax-free system, even if their shops are included in it. In this case you instead of the tax-free check can be offered the additional discount approximately for the same sum. Agree, all is the same for you, isn?t it?

Formalities at passage of customs house

At departure you should show to the custom officer tax-free check, passport and goods. In some EU countries is necessary to present the commodity check as well. If you pass through the several EU countries you should show tax-free checks and acquired goods, to receive a custom house stamp for the subsequent VAT refund, in the last country on your way.

In some countries, for example, in Holland and Sweden, works one more restrictive rule: the stamp of customs house should be imprinted on not later than 30 days from the date of purchase. In Germany and Sweden the stamp is put only in the case when the goods were not used - it should be sealed. All these rules are necessary to know beforehand.

The procedure of refund

When the custom house stamp is on your tax-free checks, you are directed to the special VAT refund office at the International Airport. In some countries these offices are placed behind the passport control boundary, therefore money can be received already passing on embarkation. And in those countries, where VAT refund office is located in a concourse, you can remain without money, if you remember about them when you checked in already ? you are not allowed to return back to a concourse. Therefore you had better to learn about VAT refund office location beforehand.

But there is no problem, if you had no time to receive your money at the airport. You can make it in any other VAT refund office - their network covers entire world.

Whether is possible to get the VAT refund without tax-free check?

It is possible, but under one condition - if you are going to return to the country, where have got the goods. So, in Holland you can get the VAT refund, having made purchase in any shop even if it is not included in TFS system. You buy the goods, then take them out of EU and imprint a customs house stamp on the usual commodity check. Procedure and restrictions are the same: show the check, passport and goods, the stamp of customs house should be put on the check not later than 30 days after purchase of the goods. Then, when in any time you again come to Holland (or in other EU country), you or your close confidant goes in shop, where the goods were bought, and receive there all sum of the VAT without a deduction of the commission. Compare: by special tax-free check at departure from Holland you receive 10 % from cost of the goods, and in shop - 17 %. The procedure is known enough and spread. The experienced people advice: buying the goods, you had better to agree with the manager of shop beforehand upon the later opportunity to get the VAT refund in such a way. Then certainly everything will be in order.

Tax-free and duty-free

If you went abroad, at the airports for certain you saw shops and booths under the badge "duty-free". ("Tax-free" and "duty-free" is the same). The duty-free trade is organized also in planes making the international flights, on ferries plying between two countries, on cruise ships. The prices of goods are lower here, than in usual shops. Besides that, what is significant and important, the duty-free shops are open not only for the foreigners, but also for the citizens of the country who leaving abroad. The main thing - that the goods shouldn?t be imported back into the same country. Therefore at the airport you can get the goods only by presentation of the ticket on departure from the country.

Mr. Cheapie's Frugal Budget Tips

So you feel like a hamster spinning your wheel? The faster you run, the faster the wheel spins. Just when you get a raise, you notice the price of hamster wheels jumps!

Mr. Cheapie is here with his super-charged budget-cutting tips.

One of the biggest wastes of money is restaurant meals. You can cook a meal at home for about 2 cents a plate. Just put leftovers in the microwave, and Presto!

Those same leftovers cost a lot more at a restaurant. They call it "the buffet", and they sell it to you for $10.95.

Consider also the steak dinner that costs, say, $7 at home. At the restaurant, you pay $13.95 for the same meal. Or, if you want fancy napkins, $39.95.

Plus tax.

Funny thing about eating at home; you don't pay tax. But step into a restaurant, and guess who jumps in: "Hello, my name is Taxman. I'll be your waiter tonight. Would you like to start with something to drink? Perhaps a very nice glass of wine? That will be 50 cents, plus the price of the wine, of course."

"Why would you tax my wine?" Mr. Cheapie wonders. "It's not like the government made it."

"Who do you think keeps this country free and safe so that you can enjoy your wine?" Taxman demands. "Do you think Saddam Hussein would let you drink wine if he was still in power?"

"I don't see how he could stop me."

"Hah!" Taxman replies. "He has spies everywhere. He knows you drink wine and he has targeted this very bottle to self destruct."

"Actually, I don't drink wine. His spies must run on the same technology as his scud missiles," Mr. Cheapie muses. "How about a steak dinner?"

"An excellent choice," Taxman beams. "That will be $1.73, plus the price of the meal."

"Now what?" Mr. Cheapie demands. "Are you saying that Saddam is targeting my steak."

"Of course not," Taxman giggles. "We have him locked away. But watch out for North Korea."

"Why?"

"North Koreans are starving," Taxman explains. "They don't have steaks."

"Ah, so the North Korean government wants to take my steak and give it to their citizens."

"Not a chance. That would violate the official North Korean policy of starvation for all. They would never feed your steak to the people. But they would hold it up to taunt them," Taxman grins. "Then they would throw it into the fire to fuel a nuclear missile trained on this very table you are sitting at."

"Which is why you need to tax my steak."

"Exactly," Taxman nods.

"It's like a security deposit."

"That's right," Taxman smiles.

"It's protection money."

"You understand," Taxman winks.

"It's your tip."

"That's what I sa ... no it's not! It's national defense," Taxman insists.

At home, you never have to tip the microwave. But, at the restaurant, your waiter expects 15%.

Mr. Cheapie has discovered a legal loophole to save 15% on your restaurant bill. According to a national Mr. Cheapie survey, your plate usually has 15% too much food on it. Set aside 15% of your meal. When your waiter comes to collect his tip, pay him in food. Your waiter raved about today's special, so Mr. Cheapie is sure he will appreciate having some for himself.

If Taxman is your waiter, don't actually give him the food. Just taunt him with it -- then mail it to North Korea. Then they won't have to blow up your table to get it themselves. Why pay for national defense when the postal service can protect your freedom to eat for just the cost of a stamp?

Aren't you glad Mr. Cheapie offers such useful, free advice?

Taurus (April 20-May 20) Youve been working too hard for too long. Its time to grab your girlfriends and seek some serious retail therapy. Theres nothing like a new leather tote bag with multiple compartments to keep a girl on track and on task. Who ever said shopping was easy?

Gemini (May 21-June 20) You Twins are divided in what you want to do with the rest of your life. Bumping up to the glass ceiling is wearing you down but are you ready to ditch it all for motherhood? Are you prepared to turn in your laptop case for a diaper bag? You dont need to forgo your fashion sense for this new calling. Keep your classic career handbags if only to retain a link to your former life.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) Theres no other way to say it: You are a fashion diva. You offer advice and counsel to your fashion-challenged friends. Youve taken shopping to an art form and your support group meets Wednesdays. Count your handbag collection and be amazed. Well. Okay, one more cant hurt. Go for patinaed leather, buckles and handmade quality. Add some studs just for fun.

Leo (July 23-August 22) The money problems you have been experiencing over the past six months have finally turned around. Through small sacrifices and incredible discipline you are once again mistress of your bank balance. Sounds like a good reason to splurge on some arm candy. Go for a fun and funky hobo slouch to celebrate your good behaviour.

Virgo (August 23-September 22) Communicate, communicate, communicate. No one is a mind reader. Ask and ye shall receive. We both know what you really want---an oversized satchel in a rich chocolate brown, distressed leather. You could use it to run away from home when things get tense. Kidding.

Libra (September 23-October 22) It is really important to take time for yourself this month. Leave the dishes in the sink, park the vacuum cleaner, wriggle out of car pool duties. Pack a roomy duffle bag with objects of decadent pleasure and take thee to a hotel room for some serious R n R. The ideal bag for this adventure will have sturdy carrying handles, leather construction and room for everything you need.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21) Follow your muse. The journey will provide creative release and profound insights. What you do with what you learn about yourself is strictly up to you. The perfect one will have pockets for your journal, colored pens, a favorite novel, scented candle and personal talisman.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) You are experiencing a quiet, introspective time in your life. While you need this space to think through some issues, dont drive the ones who care about you away. Plan a night of Texas hold em to bring some fun and frivolity back into your life. Wont you look smug walking away with your winnings in a retro framed clutch?

Fashion savvy singles will turn the windfall into handbags before the sun sets. Go for seductive, feminine styles with lots of beading, decorative stitching and tassels. Go with your gut instinct and you will be rewarded with extra attention at the club scene.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18) Use the next four weeks to realign your priorities and re-establish some good habits. Your eating and exercise regime have suffered and the results are becoming obvious in lowered energy levels. Get your butt back to Curves. Carrying your shoes, gym gear and water bottle has never been easier or more stylish than with a practical, multi-pocket tote bag. You go girl.

Pisces (February 19-March 20) Its time to fight the opposing forces in your personality and use your considerable talent and creativity for projects left on the back burner. You will dazzle and amaze yourself and others. Whether you need project notes or files or inspirational words they are at your fingertips in a beautiful burgundy leather briefcase. Theres power in looking the part.

Benefits of VoIP

You may not have considered it but there are many benefits that businesses can achieve by utilising data networks to carry their voice traffic (VoIP). By marrying this voice traffic with data traffic (IP Telephony) it becomes even more powerful.

Here are a few examples;

Cheaper Phone Calls - as your utilising existing data networks

Simpler Infrastructure - one set of CAT5 cables

Scalable - simply extend the existing data network

Reduced Operating Costs - converged system is simpler to manage

Enhanced Customer Service - "Click to Talk" web services and easy role out application like call centres

Flexibility - Remote or home workers can work as if in the office

It's fair to say that most people focus on the costs savings but in most cases the business improvements far out way the costs savings.

For example if your business operated from multiple sites it would be possible to have a single centralised system located at one site, with optimal staffing resources to operate, manage and support. No need to have 3 receptionists when one will do!

Say you had staff that wanted to work from home or from a remote office. With this technology it would be easy to give them the look and feel of being in the office and the transparency that their co-workers and customers enjoy.

Rolling out a distributed business application such as a contact centre or call centre is much easier and more robust.

But....its not that simple to get right!

You must consider;

Quality of Service - across the data network

Reliability Think when did your LAN / telephone system last fail?

Security - May increase exposure to data and voice

Support - Which department is now responsible - training?

With the latest handsets it is possible for them to act like a PC with their own IP address and with the right handsets they can even run XML applications cutting down the need for unnecessary PC's etc.

To get it right requires the right planning and foresight to make sure that your systems will grow and deliver the maximum benefit with the minimum risk.

Luggage Tips for Safer Travel

Ever had your luggage lost during a trip? Heard horrors stories about lost luggage from others? Well, losing your luggage is not the only thing that can happen to your bags and their contents while traveling. Your luggage could be broken, broken into or, even, stolen. To minimize the risk of these things happening to your bags and ruining your trip, follow the luggage tips below.

The first thing to consider is the type of luggage you use. While the idea of traveling light is appealing, you should give priority to luggage that is sturdy and durable. Checked luggage is not always handled appropriately. This may result in parts of the suitcase breaking or opening unexpectedly.

Even with sturdy luggage, avoid over packing. The pressure may lead to a broken zipper or busted seam, especially if dropped. As an extra safety measure, place a protective strap around each bag.

You should never pack valuables such as jewelry, money or travelers cheques in your checked luggage. Extra glasses or medications should be packed in your carryon or placed in your briefcase or purse.

If you will be traveling with sensitive or proprietary documents, double envelope the information and hand carry it. Placing such important items in your checked luggage would place them at risk of being lost or stolen.

To facilitate the return of your luggage in case it is lost during your trip, put your name and address inside each bag. Also, be sure that your luggage is tagged with covered tags that protect your address from open observation. If possible, use a business address and telephone number to avoid exposing your personal information.

All bags should be locked with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved luggage locks. Travel Sentry and Safe Skies have an arrangement with TSA to supply accepted and recognized locks.

If you travel with more than one suitcase, use a different combination for each piece of luggage. For bags with double locks, set each lock to a different combination.

Check with the airline and/or your personal insurance company regarding any lost luggage coverage. Research the airline you plan to use concerning procedures for recuperating lost luggage. This way, if it happens, you will know exactly where to go and what to expect.

Finally, you should never leave your bags unattended. Don't even turn your back to your luggage. It only takes a few seconds for someone to steal your bag and disappear in the crowd.

By following the tips above, you greatly decrease the chances of problems with your luggage and increase your chances of a safer, more enjoyable journey.

Where to Get a Passport provides step-by-step application information and reviews of travel visa and quick passport expediters. You can also browse a wide selection of popular and name-brand luggage at discounted prices.

If You've Hit Your Golf Driver Perfectly Once, You Can Do It Every Time

Picture yourself standing on the tee box of your favorite short 4 par. You've got your driver in hand. This hole is designed with risk-reward written all over it. If you hit it long and straight, you can get very near or maybe on the green with your driver to set up for an easy birdie. If you mis-hit it, you are looking at hazards or o/b and a balloon score.

You know the correct play here is to pull out an iron and lay up for a 100 yard shot to the green, but you just can't bring yourself to do it. You say to yourself, "What the heck, I'm going for it".

Because, after all is said and done, the idea behind playing golf is to have fun and if taking chances on the golf course and sometimes beating the odds is your idea of fun, who's to say that you are wrong about that? Myself, I'm more interested in playing for score than going for broke, but hey, that's just me. I will support anyone anytime who wants to go for the difficult tee shot with the possibility of pulling off an unbelievable shot as long as they are willing to gracefully accept the consequences of missing it .

What's the point to all of that? THE DRIVER IS KING of the golf bag! Driving the golf ball long and straight is the holy grail of almost all amateur golfers. Some will even leave a golf course happier if they were satisfied with the way they hit their driver than if they had a great score. Yet, we are constantly reminded of the old saying:

"Drive for show, and putt for dough"

Greg Norman disputes this old saw by saying in his book SHARK ATTACK: "Don't ever sell me on that line. If you can't put your tee-shot in play, the smoothest stroke in the world won't help you enough. To my mind, the most important shot in golf is the drive".

Do you feel better now? I do, because he isn't the only one who has made these types of remarks about driving. Furthermore if you really think about it, the importance of the driver and getting off the tee safely with some distance is probably greater for higher handicappers than the better golfers as the larger portion of their shots are spent in just getting to the green.

So what can we do about it short of another set of golf lessons? Plenty! Start off by getting a new driver, plain and simple. The new technology is light years ahead of the #1 wood of just 3 years ago.

Also, we must be able to direct our mind so that our brain and muscles are in sync and harmony in successfully pulling off this very violent of sports acts with the driving tool.

How to do all of that?

We must first understand how our DESIRE to hit this little white golf ball is translated into the correct contractions of muscles in a timing sequence that moves the driving club in the direction that will contact the ball squarely and with great force to achieve the outcome we want.

It's not that complicated. We are beings uniquely capable of original thought that comes from what we call our conscious mind. We create a thought there that is then communicated to our subconscious mind to make the act happen. What? Our subconscious mind makes the driver hit the ball? Yes! Here's proof:

The last time you rode a bike, did you have to say words to yourself to get your leg to push on the pedal? Did you have to tell yourself that you now have to balance yourself with a thousand small muscles all acting independently? Did you have to tell your left arm muscles to contract and your right arm muscles to release contraction in order to make a left turn? Of course not! You just thought very quickly with your conscious mind what you wanted to do and then it turned the accomplishment of that desire over to the subconscious mind. The subconscious then made it all happen.

This is no small feat to send a zillion electrical impulses out in a precise order in order to cause another zillion muscle fibers to contract or relax at the perfect time. This is the wonder of our bio-computer called the BRAIN.

So, what about all that golf advice about setup, position at the top, swing checkpoints, follow-through, etc? This is what you probably thought you would be reading about right? Folks, it's all good, however, it's sometimes too much for us to handle and causes us "paralysis by analysis". We need to work a plan that will give us maximum return for minimum effort and time. Most of us just don't have the time to go practice the multitude of advice we have been given on the swing and that is the only way you are going to improve if using a mechanical approach to improvement. A better, more time-efficient system, is a MENTAL one:

Remember this:

"The quality of our golf game is determined by the quality of our communication with ourselves."

Our subconscious mind controls all of our involuntary (don't have to think about) functions like breathing and heart rate but it also runs extremely complicated physical motions as long as it has been taught how. Hitting the driver is at the height of complication for the golf swing since we are expecting maximum force and speed coupled with keeping precision. After all, we could have pretty good precision when we have a 1-foot putt right? And we can lift our heaviest weight when we aren't concerned with whether or not we are going to drop it or not. We intuitively know that the harder we exert force on something, the less precision we have in that act. When using the driver in our golf game, we must realize a few key points in order to maximize our efficiency on the tee box.

1. The subconscious mind is the expert at swinging the driver, not the conscious.

If we have hit a great drive in the past, then our subconscious mind knows how to do it again. It knows the correct number and sequence of muscle contractions and nerve impulses required to repeat that great drive. All that is required is a clear communication of the desire to the subconscious mind. This is achieved with visualization prior to the actual swing.

2. The conscious mind tends to get in the way and must be given something to do to keep busy so that it doesn't interfere with the subconscious mind's work.

Once the desire has been communicated, you should think something simple during the swing like maybe singing a song or, a simple count of the actions of the swing as they are happening (ie 1.backswing, 2.top of swing, 3. forward motion, etc.). Or continue with the visualization of the ball flying exactly as you planned it in the middle of the swing. Or, you may be able to utilize self-hypnosis and concentrate directly and solely on that ball to put yourself in a zone-like state for the duration of the swing. Many golfers do this without even knowing it but it can be developed further with knowledge and effort in this area. (my website has free ebook on this).

3. There is a point of exertion of force on the driver that if we go beyond it, then our probability of keeping our precision is drastically reduced.

This falls under the Law of Diminishing Returns and is best explained by this analogy: how many cooks can you put in a kitchen before they start bumping into one another and actually start reducing their output as that number is exceeded. This point is different for everyone, but, most importantly: This point is at LESS FORCE than you think for most golfers who have trouble with their driver. In other plain terms...hit it solid first and then harder second.

Everything written thus far was with the intent of convincing you of this inescapable fact of hitting the driver. If you aren't convinced, then you won't take action. The actions required don't take any of your time but they do require consistent effort throughout your day. Golf is unforgiving to the lazy person but generous to the focused one.

So, make every effort this month, or this week if you have an upcoming round you want to get ready for and repeat to yourself (communicate with your subconscious mind) that you first and foremost always hit the driver square and on the sweet spot.

Say it to yourself at least one hundred or so times in a week (this is a lot easier to do than you are thinking right now). Picture in your mind what it would look like, how it would feel to have your drives go straight every single time. Zoom in on your driver about to make contact with the ball in your mental movies. Do this everywhere, anytime, but especially before falling asleep. Keep doing it on a consistent basis. Isn't that what we are striving for in golf - consistency? We have to build it into our way of thinking for it to happen out on the course.

There are many ways to effectively communicate with your subconscious mind. Basic affirmations and visualizations just described is the simplest. Once your subconscious accepts the idea as internal truth (and it must if you are persistent in convincing it), you will see dramatic improvement off the tee.
